Amyloidosis: Know Your Risk

Any person, regardless of age, sex or race, can develop primary amyloidosis. However, there are certain risk factors associated with the condition.

Risk factors for primary amyloidosis include:
  • Age: People over the age of 40 are at an increased risk for developing amyloidosis.
  • Sex: Women are less likely than men to develop amyloidosis.
  • History of Chronic Infectious of Inflammatory Diseases: People who have a history of certain diseases are at an increased risk for amyloidosis.
  • Family History: People who have a family history of amyloidosis are more at risk than people with no family history of the condition.
  • Kidney Dialysis: People who have kidney disease and who must get dialysis are at an increased risk for dialysis-associated amyloidosis.
If you think you are at risk for amyloidosis, talk to your doctor.
