Amyloidosis DictionaryA-E | F-J | K-O | P-S | T-Ztransmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs): Also known as prion diseases, TSEs are a group of progressive conditions that affect the brain and nervous systems of humans and animals and that are transmitted by prions. Prion diseases of humans include classic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, new variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker syndrome, fatal insomnia and kuru disease. Involves amyloid plaque formation. tuberculosis (TB): A common and deadly infectious disease that is caused by mycobacteria, primarily Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Tuberculosis most commonly affects the lungs (pulmonary TB) but can also affect the central nervous system, the lymphatic system, the circulatory system, the genitourinary system, bones, joints and even the skin. Associated with secondary amyloidosis.
